Residents of Kitui West Constituency are set to benefit from improved security and extended business hours following the launch of a major street lighting project spearheaded by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development under the leadership of Waziri Generali Fredrick Kimanga.
The initiative, unveiled today, includes the installation of mlika mwizi and modern street lights across key market centres, namely Manze Itumo, Kithuiani, Mikuyumikya, and Kwa Kitisya. The project is expected to transform the trading hubs by enhancing visibility, reducing insecurity, and creating a more conducive environment for economic activities.
Speaking during the launch, Kimanga emphasized that the project is in line with Governor Julius Malombe’s development manifesto, which prioritizes the installation of lighting infrastructure in all market centres to promote safety and stimulate local economies.
“This program aligns with the governor’s vision to ensure that every market centre is well-lit, secure, and economically vibrant. Lighting these areas will enable traders to operate for longer hours and improve livelihoods,” said Kimanga.
He further underscored the importance of quality workmanship, directing the contractor responsible for the project to uphold high standards.
“The governor expects nothing less than quality work. I have instructed the contractor to deliver a clean, durable, and professional job that will serve the people effectively,” he added.
The street lighting project is part of broader efforts by the county and national government to modernize infrastructure in rural areas and unlock economic potential at the grassroots level. Residents have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that it will enhance safety and boost business operations in the region.
