Governor Wavinya Ndeti had effectively put to rest doubts surrounding her administration’s development agenda after newly launched road construction machinery transformed the state of roads across Machakos County, making once impassable routes accessible and reliable.
With county graders deployed across various wards, roads that had for years hindered movement were reopened and improved, easing transport for residents and breathing new life into rural economies.
The visible progress on the ground left naysayers with little to contest, as communities witnessed tangible change driven by the county government.
Speaking on the impact of the road works, Governor Ndeti said nothing gave her greater joy than seeing farmers who had previously struggled with impassable roads now able to access markets and sell their produce with ease. She noted that residents across Machakos County were now enjoying safer, easier, and more reliable movement, thanks to the sustained road maintenance programme.
Governor Ndeti emphasized that her administration had remained firmly focused on the development and maintenance of a dependable road network capable of opening up every ward and supporting livelihoods across the county. She observed that improved infrastructure was a key enabler of economic growth, particularly for farmers who relied on efficient transport to reduce losses and secure better returns for their produce.
The road grading initiative complemented the county’s broader efforts to empower farmers by strengthening cooperative societies such as the Yatta Multipurpose Cooperative Society and fostering partnerships with private sector players, including Vert Limited, to promote value addition among fruit farmers.
Through these strategic collaborations, the county government unlocked new market opportunities, reduced post-harvest losses, and addressed the long-standing challenge of low farm-gate prices, especially for mango farmers. The improved road network further enhanced the success of these initiatives by ensuring produce could reach markets and processing centres on time.
As development continued to take shape across Machakos, Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s integrated approach to infrastructure and agriculture stood out as a practical model for inclusive growth, firmly reinforcing her administration’s commitment to improving livelihoods and delivering results for the people of Machakos County.
