The Governor of Machakos County, Wavinya Ndeti, intensified efforts to secure sustainable water access after her administration convened a high-level stakeholder consultative meeting aimed at strengthening water security and enhancing community resilience.

The meeting, chaired by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Hon. Onesmus Kuyu, brought together representatives from the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), led by Director Oloo, alongside other key national agencies. The deliberations centered on strategies to implement a comprehensive four-year plan designed to expand sustainable water access across the county.

Under Governor Ndeti’s leadership, the County Government of Machakos partnered with the Water Resources Authority (WRA), the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD), and NEMA to ensure coordinated planning, environmental compliance, and climate-responsive interventions.

The proposed projects included the construction of water pans, sand dams, and boreholes across various parts of the county. In addition, the county government planned to install plastic water storage tanks in 80 dispensaries to improve water availability for both surrounding communities and healthcare facilities.

Governor Ndeti’s administration emphasized that the initiative formed part of a broader strategy to address recurring water shortages, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and safeguard environmental resources. The collaboration between county and national agencies reflected a shared commitment to delivering practical and lasting solutions to residents.

The official launch of the projects was scheduled for 25th February 2026 in Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in Machakos County’s journey toward sustainable water access, environmental conservation, and strengthened climate resilience for present and future generations.
